1. Category and Tag


Categories provide a helpful way to group related post together, and to quickly tell readers what a post is about. Categories also make it easier for people to find your content.
Depending on the theme and widgets you have activated, categories can be displayed at the top or bottom of posts, on the individual post view, on your menu, and/or in the sidebar. You can assign multiple categories per post (you must assign at least one), and categories can be organized hierarchically.

To create a new Category, go Posts -> Categories

On the left side, you can create new category and on the right side displays all your current categories.

You can add new category by fill out the fields.

  • Category name – As expected, the name of your category.
  • Category parent – If you want to nest a category within a category, select the parent category. Otherwise leave at None .
  • Description – Describe what the category is for. This description will appear as a tooltip if you use the category widget . (Optional)

What is Tags ?

Tags provide a useful way to group related posts together and to quickly tell readers what a post is about. Tags also make it easier for people to find your content. Tags are similar to, but more specific than, categories. The use of tags is completely optional.

The most different thing is tags don’t classify as parent and child like categories. Tags can be add in the post area.

Use the post tool to create new article .

To create a new post, go Posts -> Add New

In this capture, some features were hidden. You can show it by changing the config in Screen Options. Some of the options will not appear until you install the suitable plugins. By default, the 5 main features of this page is

  • Post Editor
  • Categories
  • Tags
  • Featured Image
  • Publish box

About the Posting Edit Area , it showed only some of the basic features, to expand these features you must click on the expand button.

Set timer for our post

In case, we have an article but we don’t want to publish it, we want it automatically published at midnight. Here is the way to do it.

We click on the Edit next to the immediately , set the time you want your post will publish. You will see the Publish button is replaced with Schedule button. Hit it and done.

Adding password for the article

In wordpress, there has a great feature that you can set a password  for your article. The users can see your post on homgepage but to read, they need enter password. To use this feature, simply click on the Edit next the Public and choose Password Protected.

Change the static link

Sometime your title is too long, it looks ugly and not good for SEO. This time you need to change the url to make it’s shorter and more beautiful. Before edit the url, you need to save draft your post and click edit next to the link.
